Yes. You will be teamed with a practitioner to meet your rehabilitation needs. We find that continuity of care is appreciated and we routinely see patients in the hospitals. We will work collaboratively with hospital staff to coordinate your care.
Usually, we can have a custom orthosis made in one to three weeks after measurement. Many custom fit products can be fit the same day. Because we fabricate almost everything in our lab we are able to expedite our service when needed.
Bring the current orthosis/prosthesis even if you or your child have outgrown it or it is damaged. The patient must be present for all appointments, including adjustments. For scoliosis treatment, please make sure you bring your latest x-rays or that they have been reviewed by your practitoner prior to your visit. Also, bring your current insurance information and/or prescription if new devices are needed.
Yes. However it should be cleaned and dried thoroughly before you reapply it. If it comes in contact with salt water be sure to rinse it with fresh water. Be aware that padding inside of some braces can develop mildew if not properly dried.
If you have concerns about prosthetic care you should not hesitate to make an appointment. Much of the concern experienced before an amputation is due to not knowing what to expect afterwards. A pre-surgical visit may answer your questions and significantly minimize uncertainty.

This may vary depending on your particular situation. The most important factor is how fast the limb heals. Often the healing process may be slower than desired. Sometimes the surgeon will request a post-operative cast to be applied in the operating room. In some cases the post-operative cast is applied to prevent limb contractures and to protect the surgical site. The first prosthesis is applied several weeks following suture removal.
Yes. We often arrange for new amputees to speak with other amputees. We can direct you to support groups in your area and also to organizations like the ACA(Amputee Coaliton of America).
Minimal redness is expected with both orthosis and prosthesis wear. However, if you experience redness or irritation lasting longer than 30 minutes after removing the device contact your orthotist or prosthetist.
Yes. It is expected that the alignment of your prosthesis will change over time. This normally occurs with a new amputee as he/she adjusts to the prosthesis and becomes more active.
Most prostheses are NOT compatible with water unless they have been specifically designed for water activity. Doing so may void all manufacturer warranties.
We recommend athletic or standard heel height type shoes. Although most shoes can be worn as long as they fit both the brace and your foot. Do not change the heel height of the shoe as it may effect the function of the brace unless you discuss changes with our office.
